Fun Outdoors

Day 9, Busy Bodies:

Before Kathy left last night we made plans to go hiking in the morning with her daughter Sarah & our friend Robin. We were going to go later in the morning so Pegs & I could do our class @ 9, but with the thunderstorms that have been rolling through in the afternoons, we opted to go to a later class.

In the morning we called Robin, who was delighted with our change of plans, and she came to the house with Kathy @ 9:30. Kathy informed us when they got here that Sarah would not be back from Denver in time to hike, but would join us for lunch. Pegs & I then collected our things and we were off to hike Soda Creek up Buffalo Pass!

It was a cloudy day, but perfect temperature for a hike and we were the only ones in the parking lot when we began the hike.

I am so in love with all of Pegs (and now my) friends here in Steamboat! From Kathy to Robin (and of course Pegs), I am surrounded with inspiring and intelligent women. One would think that hanging out with moms could get “old”, but it is quite the opposite! Not only am I having a great time, I am learning so much everyday!! Robin knows so much about nature/the forests and has the most extraordinary internal compass. I love knowing that if I come across a flower or berry in the woods, 98% of the time, she knows what it is and if it is edible!

Hiking up the pass, we were amazed by all the wildflowers that were thriving beautifully. For being at such a high elevation, and this late in the season, it was incredible seeing the fall colors starting to change with all the flowers still there.

When we got to the top we found the perfect overlook to sit for a light snack. We took some pictures, shared some stories, and Robin was even able to take a call from her mom before we headed back.

By the time we got to the car it was already past 1pm! Kathy called Sarah to see if she could still meet us for lunch, but unfortunately she had to get ready for work :( So the four of us went to Sweet Pea market & restaurant where we had delicious sandwiches and salads before parting ways.

Pegs & I had a bunch of stuff to do around the house before this weekend… We are going to Boulder early tomorrow afternoon for the night since Pegs is flying home Friday for a work event in Manhattan Beach. Since she is flying out of Denver, I decided to spend the weekend in Boulder so I could drive her to the airport (and visit with mah friendsss!!)!

Although we just got into our groove working on the book, it will be nice for Pegs to reunite with Papa Curry and for me to visit my Alma mater!!! Woohoo CU!!!
